Design & function of a foundry manipulator
A foundry manipulator is a specialised handling unit that is positioned in the immediate vicinity of the moulding machine. Its task is to safely pick up, transport and set down cast parts weighing up to 500 kg, some of which are still red-hot, fresh from the moulding machine.
Typical assemblies of a used manipulator:
- Driver’s cab or operating platform for manual control
- Gripper arm with tool holder – e.g. pliers, hook, magnet
- Hydraulic system for controlled movements and lifting loads
